Rep. Karen Bass is serving her first term in Congress representing Los Angeles, California. She is the senior Democrat on the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, & Human Rights. Prior to her tenure in Congress, Rep. Bass served as the 67th Speaker of the California State Assembly, the first African-American woman in that position.
